In this unit, students will have the exciting opportunity to experience the animal life cycle as they observe caterpillars transform into butterflies. Students will make predictions, and record and communicate observations. Students will also learn about an animal's basic needs for survival (air, food, water, and shelter) as they watch a caterpillar change into a chrysalis and ultimately, a butterfly. Students will be able to note the differences and similarities between different life cycle stages of an insect. Lastly, students will release the butterflies into the environment helping the students to better understand the cycle of life.
