Kit Information

Grade: 6
Type: Life Science
Description:
In this unit, students work in teams, participate in experiments, and collect data relating to the growth and seed production of plants. Through controlled experiments, students will examine how nutrition, water, growing space, and light affect the growth of plants. Student teams will choose a variable to study, manipulate the variable, form questions about the variable, and attempt to find the answers to their questions. Hands-on activities include keeping a journal in order to record observations, collecting and graphing data, making illustrations, assessing and comparing results, and even reflecting on personal experiences. Lastly, students prepare and conduct experiments on plant germination and tropisms. They also create and give oral reports and/or multimedia presentations on their findings.
