Kit Information

Grade: 2
Type: Physical Science

This unit on balance and weighing provides a sequence of activities for students to participate in. The students are able to manipulate several objects and evaluate those objects on the basis of balance and weight. Students learn to record and graph data as they participate in a variety of hands-on activities. The activities include the building of a mobile, the use of an equal-arm balance, manipulating objects on a fulcrum, and the use of Unifix cubes for comparing weights of different objects. Even the weighing of dried foods will be involved in the investigations. Lastly, students will develop a foundation for the concept of density as they compare equal volumes of different materials to the weight of different materials.
